How to assemble AN-fittings with AN-hose

🔧 How to Assemble AN-Fittings and AN Hose

Assembling AN-fittings might look tricky the first time — but with the right tools and a bit of patience, it’s simple to do yourself. Here’s how you can make a professional, leak-free connection every time 👇

🧰 What You’ll Need

  • AN-hose (stainless braided or nylon braided)

  • AN-fittings (matching size)

  • Hose cutter or fine-tooth saw

  • Assembly lube or light oil

  • Tape (masking or electrical)

  • Soft-jaw vice inserts (optional but highly recommended)

⚙️ Step-by-Step Guide

1. Measure and Cut

Measure your hose length and wrap the cut point with tape to prevent fraying.
Cut cleanly through the hose using a hose cutter or fine-tooth saw. Make sure the cut is straight — this makes assembly much easier.

2. Prepare the Hose End

Carefully remove the tape and check that the stainless or nylon braid isn’t frayed.
Slide the socket part of the AN fitting (the one with threads on the inside) over the hose.

3. Insert the Hose

Push the hose into the socket until it bottoms out against the internal step. You should see the inner PTFE or rubber liner seated evenly inside the socket.

4. Apply Lubricant

Lightly lubricate the fitting threads and the nipple (the male part that goes into the hose). This prevents the hose from twisting or binding during assembly.

5. Tighten the Fitting

Hold the socket securely (ideally in a soft-jaw vice) and screw the nipple into the socket by hand first. Then tighten with an AN wrench or aluminum wrench to avoid scratching.
Tighten until there’s a gap of about 0.5–1 mm between the two pieces — that’s normal.

6. Inspect Your Work

Make sure the fitting isn’t cross-threaded and that the hose didn’t back out during tightening.
Wipe everything clean and pressure-test if possible before installation.

💡 Pro Tips

  • Always match hose and fitting sizes (e.g. -6 AN hose with -6 AN fitting).

  • Use AN wrenches to avoid damaging the anodized finish.

  • If assembling multiple lines, mark each hose for direction and use color-coded fittings for easy identification.
